re: #280 Belafon

Remember the ACA? Remember how doing the right thing cost Democrats the House and ultimately the Senate?

Politics isn’t like medicine or mechanics. The outcome of a series of good choices doesn’t guarantee that you will end up in the right place, or that people will even recognize that you were trying to get to the right place. You can be punished for doing the right thing. And Trump winning reelection would be far more punishment than not. And do you know how far “I was proven innocent because the Senate didn’t convict” would carry?

Edit: I should state I’m replying to the tweet.

I remember the Clinton impeachment and it didn’t hurt the GOP, contrary to current opinion. I also happen to know that the Nixon impeachment hearings started in a far deeper hole for the Dems. Nixon was popular and the votes were not there in the Senate…until the public hearings burned everything down.

Trump will claim exoneration if he is impeached and he will claim exoneration if he is not impeached. It is time to stop being f*cking afraid of doing the right thing and just do it.
