The way the poll is worded it’s a trick question. There’s legal forms of discrimination, and illegal forms. It is, for example, legal for nightclubs to discriminate against unstylishly attired persons. Me, for instance. I have no clue.

It’s legal for restaurants to discriminate against people who cannot afford shoes, or who for some reason choose not to wear them. Same with shirts. Now, is federal intervention in private business OK if it’s to stop discrimination which violates no law, if the federal government decides that it doesn’t like that sort of discrimination?

That’s a different question from this one: is federal intervention in private business OK if it’s to stop discrimination which by federal law is illegal?

The answer to the first question must be, of course not. The federal government should enforce the law, no more, no less. The answer to the second question must be, of course. The federal government should enforce the law, no more, no less.
