I would be in favor of keeping the EC, just weighting it so that electoral votes represent the states’ actual share of the population and not their seats in congress, and only having it kick in if no candidate receives an uncontested majority of votes.

But that is only a pipe dream as long as the GOP continues to draw its core support from less densely populated states.

Or we could enlarge Congress.

It’s been the exact same size since a time when our population was less than half what it is now; more districts, with smaller population, would make it easier for a broader range of people to run for office. They would be more representative. Also, it would cut in half the lobbyist/congressman ratio.
