Franken saw the writing on the wall and quit the same way someone chooses to plead guilty instead of going to a jury trial. In both cases due process is satisfied and nobody is forced to skip the formalities. Nobody forced him to do this so let’s please stop pretending that this is some miscarriage of justice. He simply recognized he was in an untenable position and took the short way out of it.

If the judge lets you know upfront that he’s going to find your ass guilty regardless of what the jury says, has there really been a fair trial?
