re: #287 HappyWarrior

Yep

He and his supporters will never admit it but he got a lot of support from conservative Dems who hate HRC. I think 2020 will be when his mystique wears off. Other candidates will point out things that HRC didn’t or got ignored because Bernie was the scrappy underdog story. He’s not that anymore.

re: #294 Blind Frog Belly White

The thing people miss about Sanders is that he had fewer supporters, but they had white-hot intensity. That’s why he won caucuses and lost primaries. It’s why he’d have lost the General.

I think it’s a combination of these two things. I think there was much less organic support for Hillary Clinton within the Democratic voters than the narrative makers would have us believe. I also think the BernieBros/moonbats are akin to the Trumper/wingnuts in the GOP, they’ll go to war for their guy against even perceived general election allies. Those who didn’t like Clinton, for whatever reason, went to Sanders because he appeared to be the only viable alternative. But there were enough voters willing to vote for Clinton that those opposed couldn’t overcome it.

2020 is going to be a very different beast for Sanders (assuming he runs) because the field will be bigger and because when you run a second time, you face a lot more scrutiny - both from the media and from voters. I don’t think Sanders has the discipline to handle that.
