Actually, it’s pure diagnostic substitution: “Autism-spectrum-disorders” have increased at exactly the rate that “Mental retardation” has decreased. The overall numbers haven’t changed at all.

Meanwhile the anti-vaxxers scream: “One in six children are learning impaired! (implied: nowadays)” You can’t explain to them that this is just what the bottom tail of 2σ looks like.
