The thing you never hear from the “Voter Fraud!!!” folks is what would actually happen with any substantial in-person voter fraud. In-person fraud would require you to go to a polling place and claim to be a registered voter in that precinct. If that person actually exists, then one of 3 things would happen:

1. The real voter voted before you got there, either in person or by absentee ballot, and the poll worker will say, “We show you as already voting”. What are you gonna say, “Oh, yeah! I forgot standing in line and all that”? Alarm bells would go off in the poll worker’s head if that happened, especially because it’s entirely possible they might know the actual voter. If this were happening in significant numbers, we’d hear about it.

2. You get there before the real voter. Then the real voter shows up and is told he already voted. Pretty sure he’s not going to say, “Okay, I guess you’re right.” and go away. No, he’s gonna raise a stink about it! If this were happening at all, we’d hear about it.

3. The real voter never shows up to vote. This one, you get away with.

The thing is, if you’re the fraudster, you don’t know which one of these is going to happen, and there are very real penalties for voter fraud. Consider that turnout in Presidential years is in the 50-60% range. That means the odds of scenario 1 or 2 is better than even for any randomly chosen voter you might impersonate.

Okay, but what about dead people voting? Of course, it’s not possible for the county registrar to keep up with all the deaths in a county and expunge them from the rolls. BUT, since investigations routinely uncover these dead voters still on the rolls, the same investigation would uncover the dead voters casting votes. If this were happening, we’d hear about it.

That leaves registration fraud, i.e. creating a false identity within a precinct and casting a vote. POSSIBLE, but the dead-letter returns from nonexistent addresses would probably alert the registrar. If this were happening, we’d hear about it.
