I grew up in Gary until I was 17. My mom ws a poor widow living on Social Security (after US Steel screwed her out of her widow’s pension) so we had to stick around and become a minority in a mostly black/Latino neighborhood.

East Gary, Indiana changed its name back to Lake Station to try and avoid any association with the place.

Yeah but see, you know better.

The first bold part is why I asked earlier what happened to the company. Company towns, ugh.

Sometimes I think some of these asswagons won’t be satisfied until they get company towns, company unions, and straight up sharecropping back as the basis for the US economy.
