After 9/11, everyone with missing family from the WTC was asked to bring in their loved one’s hairbrush, toothbrush, bloody tissues if he’d had a shaving accident that morning… and parents and offspring of the missing gave their own DNA samples. None of the remains could be ID’d by just looking at them. It’s a very slow process.

Jeez…. thinking about it, yeah, many of these victims will need DNA identification because their remains are likely in real bad shape. Except that there might not be anyone to do provide the information (since it’s possible entire families were killed in the blaze). However, the tech developed after 9/11 might well help identify victims, and that many were killed in their own apartments might also help.

What a fucking nightmare.
