All points well taken, but the fact remains that the BBT is still be best operational theory so far for what we can observe. There may be tweaks and modifications which may seem ad hoc, but that’s how scientific theories operate. Few work perfectly right out of the box, so to speak. As long as the majority of scientists in the field agree the changes are merited, they become part of the theory, which — as I have repeated above — is really only a tentative explanation for observed phenomena.
I remain convinced that someday (sooner than we think) we will come up with observations and theories that make us laugh at BBT as if it were as preposterous and outdated as flat earth, phlogiston or spontaneous generation
