Democrats are getting fucked over with some kind of oppo doc dump that’s intent on skewering every top level official and then some.

Democrats in VA need a strategy to move forward. That includes resignations where appropriate (Northam), and also a push to address the institutional racism and bigotry across the state, which has led to this point.

That means taking down all the Confederate statues outside of national park properties and reminding everyone of the state’s role in the insurrection that led to the deaths of a million Americans or more for the South’s right to own slaves and protect the institution of slavery.

That means requiring classes in public and private schools that teach everyone about the war of Southern Insurrection. It means reminding everyone of the articles of secession that specifically point to protecting the institution of slavery as an explicit reason for launching the war. It means reminding everyone that flying a confederate battle flag is flying the flag of the losing side - the side that supported protecting the institution of slavery. It’s reminding everyone that we do not give trophies for 2d place. We don’t give statues to the losers of the war that they initiated.

It means creating a truth and reconciliation panel that helps navigate the facts and purging the remnants of confederate revisionism from the public space.

It means reminding everyone that institutional racism remains alive and well, and that blackface and KKK are alive and well - and we aren’t removed from the KKK terrorizing minorities - it’s still going on. White supremacist and white nationalist groups are still pushing revisionist history and romanticizing putting nonwhites in their place.

It has to end, and if it means this is the legacy of Northam and the AG getting booted, so be it.

The GOP continues to push the revisionist history of the civil war and romanticizes the South at every turn. The South lost. There’s nothing romantic about a war they initiated to protect the institution of slavery.
