Someone explain to me why the right is so hung up on the second amendment and talking about its use to oppose the government.

I can understand people who are actually doing something illegal wanting to be armed enough to give the cops some reason to avoid a confrontation over something small. If you’re a drug dealer or a pimp or a pot grower maybe you want a bunch of scary guns to shoot at the cops when they show up. So maybe I understand the non-religious Libertarians “drugs and prostitution and underage sex should be legal” crowd talking about taking on the the government. But the Republican base? Over what? I don’t get it.
