Slavery was a later Puritan import. It is my understanding that the Mayflower didn’t carry any slaves.

Then we may just have a misunderstanding of language. I was under the impression that “the Pilgrims” as a label emanates from the “Pilgrim Fathers” of Plymouth Colony, not from the Mayflower specifically.
