Ignorance of the law is no excuse. The law’s ignorance makes murder okay.

It’s not ignorance of the law, its not being able to know what threat someone really posed. Self-defense law in this country requires the reasonable belief that the threat was real. If that belief is present, then its not murder even if it turns out what a homeowner thought was a gun was really a lockpick device. That actually happened in Chicago in the last couple years and the homeowner was fully cleared by the police and the state’s attorney.
