I tend to like command line versions better anyway because then I can use them in a shell environment too.

The command line version is definitely easier to use when you have fixed, simple things to do. Even though I maintain the extension, I don’t think using the PHP extension is actually valid for most simple things people use it for.

btw You might want to make sure you are using ImageMagick version 6.9.2 or greater…..I’ve spent a lot of time not actually working on the extension code…but instead just tracking down errors in ImageMagick itself.
