In fundraising speech tonight, Trump says he made up facts on trade in meeting with Trudeau. “I didn’t even know. … I had no idea. I just said ‘You’re wrong.’” Government data shows Trump was wrong. Post has the audio. w/@damianpaletta & @ericawerner: https://t.co/KjNhO6jiAZ

When @POTUS is ignorant and makes stuff up, as he did with Trudeau, his credibility gets shredded. That weakens America. It also makes people think @realDonaldTrump has a low IQ. https://t.co/37teJLhlBt

The depth of Trump’s malignancy is revealed not merely in the fact that he reflexively lies without even bothering to research the underlying facts first, it’s that now he’s fucking bragging about it. He and his supporters are getting more and more comfortable with discarding any pretense that they’re “telling it like it is.” The lie is no longer just a shibboleth used to identify the ideological self from the other, it’s becoming an overt tool to reshape society into an Orwellian dystopia where the idea of objective truth is no longer even vaguely aspirational. They are openly pursuing a policy of aggressive dishonesty and obstreperous ignorance as an end to itself.
