We keep saying stuff like that - “Lower income white voters are voting against their own interest!”, but is it really true? It certainly isn’t true as THEY see their interest.

We look at Trumps’ bullshitting his supporters with promises that steel and coal are coming back, that his health care plan will cover everyone better for cheaper and be ‘so easy’, that he’d tax rich hedge fund managers more, and of course he breaks those promises and we say, “Will his White Working Class supporters leave him?”

No, they won’t. The things he was obviously lying about were just the icing on the cake for them. The Muslim Ban; deportations; ICE becoming the new SS; empowering cops to keep right on abusing black people; sticking it to experts and the media - THOSE were why they elected him and he’s doing those.

For the GOP in Congress, you gotta figure the entire ‘Freedom Caucus’ absolutely fucking LOVES what Trump is doing, and I’d bet a lot of the more ‘moderate’ GOPers are on the same page - but they’ve had to run as ‘Not A Swivel-Eyed Loon’ to get elected. And the ones who don’t like what he’s doing on immigration, or North Korea, or whatever fucking LOVE the tax cuts and the Conservative judges he’s nominating to the spots McConnell held open for him.

So, we need to stop thinking they don’t LOVE what he’s doing, and figure AT MOST they don’t like his style but love the results.

Right up till they lose their jobs.

IOW: Racism is precisely their interests.

And this country is far more racist than we would like to admit.
