They don’t like mentioning that the founding fathers did not allow concealed carry. Only criminals needed to hide their weapons. This was true in, IIRC, New York, New Orleans & Philadelphia and was considered appropriate elsewhere. Now gentlemen and ladies were allowed discretion but only if they were killing their social inferiors.

The so-called “Wild West” wasn’t all that wild; most frontier towns had ordinances banning not just concealed carry, but ALL firearms within city limits. The infamous shootout at the “OK Corral” in Tombstone, Arizona (actually several streets over from the corral, and more of a running gunfight than a stand-and-deliver shootout) was caused, proximately, by Wyatt Earp’s belief that the Clantons were packing heat in town.
