That itself would be thorny due to circumstances that a dealer can’t foresee. Would holding the dealer who sold Nancy Lanza her arsenal really accomplish much?

Of course the dealer would not always be found liable, but I think they would be in certain cases. If bartenders and wait staff can be liable for ‘over serving’ to someone who subsequently drives drunk, I think a gun dealer can be held responsible for selling a gun used in a crime if they didn’t do their job correctly.
