re: #303 Barefoot Grin

Totally OT, but my child’s clarinet teacher today said “he’s doing great at improvisation, but if he keeps playing with CDs he’ll just play variations on the solos. You should get Band in a Box. It will allow him to create segments of songs in different styles with bass, guitar and drums, and he can loop it to practice over and over.”

Anyone have any experience with Band in a Box? I’m looking at the cheapest version for Mac (2017 for $100). Better (cheaper) alternatives?

Oh gosh, BG, I’m going out on a limb here because I don’t know a thing about Band in a Box or any of that. But I did play a little back in the day and my brother was a pro musician for twelve or fourteen years, and still does gigs now and then. And what I would suggest is to get the kid around real live musicians playing real live music as much as possible. If I had a boy who played an instrument like clarinet, I’d take him to Preservation Hall every chance I got.
