We speak English here except we’ve always had people who speak other languages. Hell I have one ancestor who only spoke Irish. She was in her 30’s when she arrived fleeing the famine and hunger and spent nearly her entire life in the US in Irish enclaves. I think it’s okay to encourage English speaking & learning but at the same time, I have a big problem with those who shout at people who don’t.

Today’s ignorant nativists fear millions of non english speaking migrants from shithole countries will destroy ours, not realizing that this country was built by millions of non english speaking migrants from shithole countries. NYC once had numerous newspapers written in various languages.
