There is no excuse for physical abuse of a child, and rarely any excuse to spank a child old enough to be punished with more effective consequences that they can understand. But there is nothing wrong with swatting a small child on the bottom in an extreme situation to emphasize NO!…and a generation of bratty, neurotic narcissists resulted from parents who would never, ever, dream of spanking their little angel.

I agree! Having raised 4 kids myself, there are times when a swat on the bottom is absolutely necessary. When my kids were young, I listened to Dobson on the radio, and he had a lot of good advice. I had one of those “strong willed” kids. This child, when told not to touch the oven would disobey. For his own safety, I needed to let him know I was the one in charge. Believe me, time out didn’t work for this child. This isn’t abuse, this was a swat to show the child you really mean business!
