So no, people who have been paying attention didn’t assume, oh the NSA is collecting everything and anything possible, and has figured out how to hack computers and get information not connected to the internet.

They’re not, and they can’t. Their datacenters are the same density as anyone else’s, and they hire analysts from the same worker pool as everyone else. Their Moore’s Law is just like mine. This sort of breathless hyperbole has negative value: it is hurting an important conversation that we can and should be having.

If you want to take Greenwald’s bullshit at face value and have a freakout conversation based upon it, you’re going to be doing it without my help.
