A couple of years ago me and a buddy geeked around, we couldn’t hear above 16k. Actually, more than a few years ago.
But good bass still matters. We’ll be able to feel that until we’re dead.
When I was a kid visiting my dad’s TV repair shop, I told him I could hear the whine of the flyback transformers in a TV set (they operate at close to 20 kHz, IIRC). He couldn’t.
In my 40s, I could hear up to 17 kHz, but my physics students could hear higher freqs. Now, I think I’d be lucky to hear above 14 kHz. I checked one time using an audio generator for Windows. No joy.
