Goes back to ‘38 and ‘68 from what I understand. I’m thankful that Slovakia’s President is a liberal. My family in the SR are Slovak nationals but not ethnically so when President Caputova speaks in Rusyn, it’s like when Spanish is spoken here.
Probably further than that. I’d say - at least - to the Hussite Wars of the 15th century. As one of my Czech friends explained, “For centuries, every time foreigners have shown up here, they did not come in peace and it always ended badly for us, in misery and death. So we’re usually a little worried about foreigners, even when they say they’re our friends.”
