re: #309 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))

I remain convinced that someday (sooner than we think) we will come up with observations and theories that make us laugh at BBT as if it were as preposterous and outdated as flat earth, phlogiston or spontaneous generation

It’s possible, for sure. There are still so many aspects of the BBT that have not yet been verified, such as the graviton I mentioned earlier. The theory right now depends on the Standard Model of Particles and Interactions, which has worked very well so far. If string theory were ever verified (it’s still mostly speculation), it would require a re-assessment of the BBT, if not a whole new theory for the evolution of the universe.

That how science works. Creationists are really not comfortable with the ad hoc nature of science, because they want all their answers is nice, neat little packages. FTM, conservatives are not comfortable with the ad hoc nature of society and politics. They want everything to remain static, relative to some mythical golden age when society and politics were “just right.”

The only sure things are death, taxes and change.
