Don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I have not in any way disputed that it’s Viacoms call to decide how zealously to protect their product. I do however dispute their logic in this case. I don’t dispute that logic as part of a challenge to Viacom’s rights, I challenge it simply because it doesn’t make any sense, and the result - inability to post any clips from the show - is annoying.

Many times a company like Viacom (or recording companies, video distribution companies, even book publishers) will hold a product “off the shelf” until they deem there is enough of a demand to offset marketing and distribution costs, then after that swell has passed but the product back into mothballs.
