So, earlier today, a student and I were discussing the 1990’s US sitcom Frasier, which airs on TV here on one of the smaller networks, and which she’d never seen before (it really does lose something when it’s not in English) and her question was “How come we never see Maris?”

I tried explaining to her that it was basically a running gag in the show - that Maris was often described, but never seen, leaving it to your imagination. I don’t think my student quite understood that concept. So when she asked me what I though Maris looked like, you know, my mind flashed back to watching that show in the ’90s, and I always mentally pictured Maris as Shelley Duvall, circa early 1970’s. Sorta like this:

But, that’s just my take.
