Prolly like a drug and alcohol rehab counselor. They can be a dime a dozen I. E., “I’ve been sober for 6 months. I’m now recovered and an expert in mental illness and D&A recovery.” Get the picture? If you know Bill W. Like I know Bill W. You know the type.
Except peer counseling sometimes works very well if you have a sponsor/friend to get you over the hump, so to speak, if that person has actually been successful.
That said, it doesn’t mean they’re experts; a lot of them become dependent upon religion, but—whatever keeps them straight and healthier, I suppose.
