Here I have to disagree. He is good at creating the image of success and prosperity where none exists. I expect he will be allowed to employ a lot of economic sleigh-of-hand to make it look like things are booming well into 2018 and even beyond, probably long enough to ensure his re-election.

I wish I could be less pessimistic, but my optimism has been severely damaged by recent events and developments.

I disagree. This is a man who lost the popular vote in historic fashion, already has historic low ratings, and has an large and increasing Trump regret movement. You can continue to be pessimistic but pessimism is why we are here right now.
