Takes me back to Usenet groups. Anyone else remember those? Most were completely unmoderated, so death threats and insane rants checkered the threads about finding a pediatrician or discussing the latest Harry Potter book.

I certainly grew a very thick skin, but I prefer moderated sites to picking through that crap.

Yeah, people used to talk about the internet as the new Wild West or frontier approvingly, glossing over that people died in those places for often absolutely no, or at best retarded reasons. I’m sure the Wild West was nirvana for bullies, rapists, murderers and other assorted lowlifes, but most people prefer a modicum of civilization.
