The ‘total war’ that Sherman practiced was far less total than the Total War the belligerents in WWII practiced, in every way. It’s weird to see Southerners curse Sherman’s name but praise Patton.

The primary reason is that Sherman did it to *them* (or supposedly their ancestors) and Patton did it to someone else.
