The thing about the Good Samaritan is that it’s easy for right-wing assholes to abstract the parable away if they keep portraying the erstwhile hero as a Samaritan, because to a modern layperson, “Samaritan” is a historical construct that has no contextual value. If you rephrase the parable in modern terms that they understand, suddenly it gets a whole lot more uncomfortable.
Even on the rare occasion that they know that there are still Samaritans (~800 adults) living in the West Bank and worshiping according to their interpretation of Torah on Mt. Gerizim that tends to still be true.
