Yes but you said Trump’s benefit was that he was removed from politics as an outsider. That’s really not true. He had just as much if not more contact with politicians before he had a reality show. My memories of Trump are mostly Pre-Apprentice as an obnoxious asshole that pop culture loved spoofing.

He was successfully sold as such. And he had no record of public service.
