From what I’ve read this seems like some straight up nutcase or someone who really wanted to die. Not terrorism.

While I’m sure we all appreciate the attention and the sympathy, it is a bit disturbing to see the extreme focus devoted by the US media to French crimes, looking with barely disguised ghoulish glee for any possible connection to jihadism.

Yesterday’s shooting in Grasse was by a disturbed teenager, and thanks to our gun laws, there were only 4 persons lightly wounded directly (+ 4 in the ensuing panic).

Today’s Orly event was a petty criminal who was on the lam from the police after exchanging shots yesterday.

Last year we had something like 40 dead in Marseille due to various drug dealers settling accounts etc. A number of them, I’m sure, had Arab-sounding patronyms; yet none of this is related to jihadism, and frankly it’s been going on for a while.

This unhealthy obsession should stop.
