“Venezeula” has become the byword for “socialism” and all the negative aspects of such in the wingnut lexicon, so it wasn’t that much of a stretch for them to start trying to wed AOC to Venezuela in people’s minds so as to say “See, what she’s proposing doesn’t work! While everything we’ve every proposed does because…because shut-up, it totally does!”

Well it’s a good thing we haven’t nationalized the largest sector of our economy. And it’s also probably pretty good that we have a diversified economy that wouldn’t collapse just because the price of a single commodity drops. Then again, I’m also fairly certain that neither AOC nor anyone else has suggested we do those things.
