If they have any intelligence at all, they’ll go quiet try to convince the public that they’re not ALL nuts and hope people forget about the last 6 years.

The question is, can they face the fact that they made a bad gamble and that every damn thing they’ve done since Bush has been a mistake.

Hell Iraq and the tax cuts were huge mistakes too.

When was the last time they didn’t suck?

The GOP’s problem is their base, which has become ever-increasingly insane. Extremists have disproportionate power within the GOP; the party leadership cannot simply jettison them, as much as they may want to, without becoming non-viable as a national political party. The GOP needs the Deep South and the Intermountain West; without those states, they’re done.

The GOP created a political Frankenstein’s Monster that’s now running amok. My guess is that GOP leadership is hoping the base will eventually mellow out, or if nothing else, die off so they can replaced with more sane voters.
