Unfortunately the Clinton ruling isn’t exactly as on point as people think, because Clinton was sued in Federal Court and the current action against Trump was filed in State Court. That might not seem like a big difference but the 1996 SCOTUS ruling specifically left open this question. Imani Gandi & Jessica Mason covered this awhile ago over at Rewire.

So, basically Trump sees the Presidency as one big ‘Get Out Of Jail’ card.

He may find just how far that goes.
