(I had some doubts about posting this so soon after yet another mass shooting, but it occurred to me that there is no thing anymore as a time that is NOT soon after a mass shooting.)

Crazed NRA-hating libtard snowflake though I am, I have sprung for a new shootin’ iron:

Henry Big Boy Carbine, .357 Magnum.
This is very similar to a .22 Henry I already have and it uses the same ammo as my Taurus Tracker revolver. This choice of caliber was influenced by another Lizardoid gun owner, William Lewis.
This gun cost as much as some AR-15s, but even the most gun-averse observers can see some significant differences beyond the hand rubbed wood furniture. It holds 7 shots rather than 20 or 30 or a hundred. A proficient shooter can get them out fairly fast but after that a lengthy break is needed to reload since the magazine does not detach. Unlike the typical semi-auto, it is not sensitive about ammunition at all and can also use .38 spl handgun ammo. You can even use the little .38 shotshells or black powder rounds, though the manufacturer recommends single-loading the former.
I don’t really see this as home defense but it would serve for that purpose if the stuff somehow hits the fan for real. Stopping power is very good at short range but it is much less likely than an AR to penetrate the walls and kill my dogs, cats, burros or neighbors .
It seems a good choice for around the farm, and would be good in a real survival situation if such a thing happens.
