I think to build a business from nothing into a multibillion dollar global entity, arrogance and pretentiousness are basic requirements. Hell, on some level, I think they’re something you need to start any business. But the more successful you become, and the bigger the business becomes, you can be blinded by them - it’s part of the founder’s syndrome. So much of the business is tied (in their minds at least) to their own identity, so any success must be because of all the things they did.

it is also very likely, and common, that the very skills they had, and used, to build said business from scratch are not applicable to managing an actual robust going concern
