It is an outdated technology

Oil is energy. The US like everywhere else uses lots of energy and wants more energy and cheap energy at that. Oil and gas are free energy, they’re sitting there in the ground like a thick strata of dollar bills that just need pumping to the surface and some processing to make money. The oil and gas industry has make great efforts to squeeze cost out of the oilfield-to-gas-tank operation over the past few decades and they believe they can reduce those costs even more.
