Josh is right; Trumpworld is panicking right now and they don’t know what to do. They’ve never had to confront anything like this before and there’s no roadmap for them. Trump himself is clearly flailing, desperately trying to come up with something, anything, to save his worthless ass.

The big issue they’re facing is the very asshole they’re trying to defend. The smartest thing that Trump could have possibly done would have been to keep silent. Any time a journalist asked him a question, his automatic response should have been to point them to his lawyers who’d belch out a bunch of legalese that said little and revealed less. Odds are that Garland would have responded to such a scenario by sticking with the “We’ll let the court filings tell our story” position and allowed this whole thing to go silent again for weeks or months.

Instead, the loud-mouthed fuck went out on Fifth Ave, doused himself with high-octane, struck a match, and lit himself ablaze while his fans cheered him on.
