When the hell did arugula become the new caviar, anyway?

It’s become downright subversive on the right.
During Soviet times, we rightly ridiculed Soviet theoreticians for creating such categories as “politically correct vegetables.” (This was “politically correct” in its original, non-ironic, and communistically humorless sense). Cabbage, for example, was a politically correct veggie, since it produced a lot of nutrition and calories relative to the effort put into raising it. Lettuce was less correct, however, since the calorie/nutrition payoff was much lower for the resources expended.
It is a wonder to me that we, and the new right-wing of all people, have managed not only to revive the political vegetable, but to elaborate on it.
