As an honest question (and feel free not to answer), was the transvaginal ultrasound recommended by the doctor or required by law?

I think for me part of the issue is that we’re all used to sucking it up and going with doctor’s recommendations even if we aren’t keen on them, because that’s a recommendation being made on our own case (generally) and supposedly by someone who has some idea of what our best interests are.

I don’t for a moment believe that any politician knows what’s best for me and think they should be kept out of all medical decisions, but particularly to recommend something like that is …distasteful. I am somewhat ambivalent about calling it rape for a number of reasons and probably lean slightly against.

For the record, the pelvic exam and pap smear are definitely in the category of “shit I put up with for my own good” because of the chance for cervical cancer. But only for that reason. There’s no reason to have to have it every year just for birth control.
