Speaking of the Pope, has any smoke been detected coming from the Capitol building in DC? I was wondering if the GOP conclave was over yet and if the smoke was black or white letting us know if Trump has been elected as a true Republican or not.

On the one hand, Ryan needs to normalize Trump to protect his members and his House majority, because if the party isn’t united and Republicans stay home in November it could cause a down ticket massacre. On the other hand, it has occurred to me that Ryan’s own political ambitions would be better served if he lost the Speakership. Next year he will have to make deals with Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton to keep the government open, and he will be excoriated across the wingularity as a RINO traitor to the conservative cause, which will not help his 2020 presidential run against Ted Cruz.
