In times of crisis, your enemies can become your allies, but not necessarily your friends. We did eventually fight alongside Stalin, even though he was both our political adversary and contributed to the WW2 by aligning with Germany early.

Stalin was savy enough to realize how ill-prepared Russia was for war against Germany at the time. Not a fan of Stalin, of course.
