To be perfectly frank, even if it was intended to be this way, it’s still fucking wrong.

I don’t especially care about the vision of the Founding Fathers in this instance. Nor do the gun cultists. If a memo from Jefferson were found today that said, ‘naturally, by ‘bear arms’ we mean carry muskets in a militia, not have every fucking white man running around with three heavy machine guns’, gun cultists wouldn’t just go, oh, I guess that’s pretty clear, we’ll accept some gun regulations. The gun cult is part and parcel of the American right wing cult, which is a philosophy based around hating other people. Keeping guns with the implicit idea of using them on other people they don’t like is key to that.

Jefferson wrote about the first amendment providing a wall separating church and state and the right says he never wrote such a thing.
