I will not be supporting the Texas Tech Red Raiders in their game with Oklahoma tomorrow. This is a protest against the absolutely appalling off-campus behavior I have witnessed from TTU students this fall.

One new fad among the socially challenged seems to consist of spitting toward anyone they don’t like (from a distance of course) or, more likely, who is mistakenly perceived as occupying a lower social stratum. I saw happen twice in a few minutes at Wal-Mart a few night ago. I asked the security guard about it. He said, yes, it is illegal and beastly but there is probably not enough room in the jail to contain all the drunken students who indulge in it. A soldier on leave reported that students routinely spit and make obscene gestures at him in public. Since most of these students are brain-dead ultra-conformists from rural West Texas or the Dallas suburbs, there could scarcely be any political content, however depraved, in their actions. They are simply acting out the white-trash-gone-to-town value system they were raised with and that most of the them lack the mentality to question.
I have already met some OU fans who are here for the game. They are without exception polite and civilized. TTU fans are, of course, nationally notorious for their barbaric behavior in the stadium and confines, so much so that hundreds of extra security personnel are hired to supplement the already numerous campus and city police during each home game.

Not all of our students behave like escapees from the baboon enclosure but enough do for it to reflect on the whole community.

No offense, but any school that hired Bobby Knight lost my respect the moment they did it.
