Especially when they had the distribution chain to do same day sales (every one of their thousands of stores was already linked to their national distribution network), but they couldn’t figure out what to do with it. They could have killed Amazon before Amazon became Amazon (and which is now trying to build out the distribution network to do same day distribution).

Others are leveraging store locations to better effect, such as Target and Walmart and Kohls. But JC Penneys and Sears failed miserably, and Toys R Us also failed for a similar reason.

I suspect a lot of it was “we’ve always done it this way” or “our customers are used to the way we do things” or some such backwards looking nonsense.
