Few would dare. But the president cannot help but be an insider if he is to be effective. So for a president to say he (or she, because the job will eventually be held by a woman) cannot change change Washington from the inside is for him to say he cannot change Washington period.

It’s that sort of unforced error I’ve talked about this week. Obama just handed Mitt Romney a way to change the topic and go onto the offensive, at least at his own rallies and appearances.

Perhaps and I could see that working. He was speaking metaphorically though and it is true. Look at the Tea Party ascension. That was not from the inside.
